SASSA Gold Cards: Can Beneficiaries Receive Payments in January?

Will SASSA Gold Card Holders Receive Payments in January?

As 2025 dawns, there is a lot of speculation among the beneficiaries of the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) about their capability to utilize the SASSA Gold Cards in order to access the January payments. Postbank has assured all recipients that the Gold Card will remain valid for January payments. Here is what you need to know:

Can Beneficiaries Use the Gold Card for January Payments?

Postbank confirmed again on December 31, 2024, that SASSA Gold Cards are operational. It reads:

  • Attention all SASSA grant beneficiaries: SASSA Gold Cards will not expire on December 31, 2024.
  • Beneficiaries were advised to discard any contradictory announcement unless one coming directly from Postbank. Their statement continued:
  • You may collect your SASSA grant with your existing SASSA Gold Card for January 2025 payments. Any contrasting claims can be ignored.”

How Long Will the Gold Card Be Usable?

In October 2024, it was announced by Postbank that SASSA Gold Cards would remain functional until such time as a notification would be issued or a decision was made by cardholders to change them. They also dismissed any rumor that beneficiaries should replace their cards.

“Gold Cards are functional and will continue to work until Postbank provides every beneficiary with a new Black Card,” the bank clarified. They stressed that only Postbank can replace the SASSA Gold Cards, and everyone should not be coerced by any other person to change banks or cards.

New Postbank Black Cards Now Available

Postbank is in the process of phasing out the SASSA Gold Cards and bringing in a new Black Card from this month. Beneficiaries can now collect the new cards at selected retail stores.

Postbank encourages recipients to migrate by saying: “Join the millions already collecting their grants via Postbank Black Cards. Collect yours now at your nearest participating store.”
